The video platform will invest 25 million dollars to fight against them
A few days ago, Facebook offered $ 40,000 to fight the fake news on Whatsapp. This week, YouTube has announced that it will invest about 25 million dollars to end the hoaxes and rumors in its video platform.
In recent months, the division of Google has been sprinkled by several scandals with videos with content not suitable for children on its Youtube Kids platform and also by images broadcast messages from terrorist groups.
At an event held in New York (USA), Youtube executives have announced a campaign by the hand of Wikipedia to work with "accredited" sources that spread news that is more relevant within the service.
This announcement involves the incorporation of links to the Encyclopedia Britannica or Wikipedia in conspiracy or controversial videos. With these changes, YouTube hopes to put an end to the misinformation and manipulation that can occur when 450 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute.
This investment is part of the Google News Initiative, a campaign that seeks to combat false news and help reliable media.
