WhatsApp offers reward to end false news

The instant messaging service presents the research awards against misinformation

False news is a problem recognized by the technological giants. Google, Facebook and all its universe are working against the clock to end this particularly sensitive problem in WhatsApp.

The shared news and the chains of messages spread without control in the instant messaging app are becoming more and more and their creators have not found a way to stop or reduce them.

Therefore, Facebook has decided to seek help outside of their company and has launched the WhatsApp Research Awards, awards that will be given to those who present projects that help improve the platform and combat the spread of rumors and false news in the platform.

This contest will have as incentive a prize of 40,000 euros and the proposals will be received until August 12 of this year. "The WhatsApp Research Awards will provide funds for independent research proposals designed to be shared with WhatsApp, Facebook and broader academic and policy communities," Facebook explains in a blog post.

Facebook will receive proposals from people who have experience in the study of online interaction and information technologies, taking into account several research areas such as the processing of problematic content information, information related to elections, digital literacy and disinformation , and, finally, detection of problematic behavior within encrypted systems.

A program, by the way, that joins the Facebook premiered in the month of April. On this occasion, however, it was a new way to give rewards to those who discovered vulnerabilities in the social network.
