Two out of ten young people under ten have a profile in social networks
Eight out of ten Spaniards have a smartphone in their pocket, which is one of the highest penetration rates in the entire European Union. In addition, Spain became in 2017 one of the preferred targets for cybercriminals.
However, these data have not made the Spaniards fully aware and it is one of the pending delays in the safe use of New Technologies to avoid being victims of cybercriminals both at a personal or family level and in the business world.
According to a survey by S2 Grupo, 16% of parents said they bought their first smartphone for their children before age 10 and that 22% of minors, included in this age group, already use social networks.
"The problems originated in connected environments are multiple and the trend indicates that they will continue to increase, that causes the alarms to soar and that from the public institutions, organizations and private entities we start to train and raise awareness of minors and prevent they are victims of crimes related to the use of New Technologies ", highlights José Rosell, partner-director of S2 Grupo.
In this sense, cyber bullying, sexting, loss of privacy, addictions or online gambling are just some of the risks that minors related to this area can face. "Many families think that limiting the use of these technologies is the solution to avoid problems, but this is useless. The connected devices are increasingly implanted in each area of our life and the real way to protect ourselves is to know the risks to which we face and how to make responsible use of the Internet ", explains Rosell.
In the week of safe Internet, experts remember that to have a safe navigation, both parents and children should know the technology they use and, above all, be suspicious of strangers, in the case of children, when accepting friends in social networks.
"Both adults and minors are not aware of it and, therefore, do not manage the associated risks." These dangers stem from both the technical vulnerabilities associated with the use of the devices and access to online services as well as unsafe behavior practices. , mainly by the minors, "the experts recall.
