The test lasted less than a minute and only got up off the ground
It's only been 53 seconds and there are no moving images of it, but Airbus, they say, are excited about Vahana's first test. The first urban electric airplane of Airbus has managed to reach the five meters of height before landing.
"In just under two years, Vahana went from being a conceptual sketch on a napkin to a large-scale self-directed aircraft that has successfully completed its first flight," Vahana project manager Zach Lovering said.
The test was completed on January 31 at the Pendleton UAS Range in Oregon. Vahana is a project developed in A3, the Silicon Valley outpost of Airbus.
The company's project aims to democratize personal flight and respond to the growing need for urban mobility by taking advantage of the latest technologies in electric propulsion, energy storage and artificial vision.
"Our goal is to democratize personal flight taking advantage of the latest technologies such as electric propulsion, energy storage and artificial vision." Our first flights mark a huge milestone for Vahana, as well as the global search for urban air mobility, "Lovering adds. .
After these first stationary flights, the team will resort to additional tests, including transitions and the outbound flight
