Spanish minors have a major problem with the mobile

Almost half of young people abuse the smartphone

70% of children under 12 have a mobile phone at their disposal, and of these, 40% admit that they make excessive use of it, according to data from the Proyecto Hombre association provided by Torres y Carrera. This misuse often results in an increase in connection hours or even a decrease in school performance.

The extension of Internet access is part of the growth and technological development experienced by society, which faces, however, the use that users make of information and communication technologies (ICT).

In this sense, Proyecto Hombre warns that seven out of ten children aged 12 have a mobile phone (a figure that rises to 94% in the case of children aged 15), and 40% admit to abusing it, which This leads to an "increase in minors served by problematic use of ICT".

In Proyecto Hombre, as indicated in a statement, have gone from serving in 2013 to three young people throughout Spain for an inappropriate use of new technologies, to support 51 children in 2017. "We can not look for the problem in ICT, but in the use that is made of them, "says the president of Proyecto Hombre, Luis Bononato.

The problematic use of technology is nourished by a "context" that "facilitates or provokes it, and not vice versa". In this line, Bononato highlights the role that parents have in the education of their children, who can not "delegate to third parties", given that the "minor will not have resources to overcome situations or to interact with other young people".

However, there are indications that warn of a possible misuse of technology by children, such as mood or the way of relating. We can mention the loss of interest, the lack of personal development to face situations directly, the drop in school performance, lack of sleep, moodiness and family and social isolation as some of the warning signs.

It is about "extreme situations", as the president of Proyecto Hombre points out, before which it is "important" to remain alert and be able to identify "disorderly behaviors" in time. However, Bononato clarifies that "it would be an anachronism to renounce the multiple benefits offered by ICT", for which it is necessary to "make a correct use of them".
