Shadow of the Tomb Raider': Lara Croft is back

The new title of the saga, which goes on sale on September 14, includes a new world based on ancient Mayan civilizations called Paititi

idos-Montréal bets heavily on a more complete Lara Croft. After the appearance of 'Tomb Raider' (2013) and 'Rise of the Tomb Raider' (2015-2016), the trilogy is completed with 'Shadow of the Tomb Raider', the first videogame of Lara Croft dedicated exclusively to video game consoles and state-of-the-art computers, since 'Rise of the Tomb Raider' was appearing in a progressive way as a remastering on PS4 after appearing first for Xbox 360 and then for Xbox One.

The last game of the trilogy promises, according to its own developers -who presented the videogame in Madrid with the help of Koch Media- bring a more complete Lara, warrior and that blends perfectly with nature. In addition, it is assured that Lara is more capable and calculating, since she survives and finally dominates a more brutal jungle than ever.

The game, which will go on sale next September 14, has the collaboration of two developer companies such as Eidos-Montréal -in charge of developing the game for the first time- and Crystal Dynamics; and with Square Enix as editor, showing a very strong bet from the most talented group of developers to complete a trilogy that has gone from less to more.

According to Jason Dozois , videogame narrative director, and Heath Smith, lead designer of 'Shadow of the Tomb Raider' the game will show the most crucial moment of Lara's life, the total growth of the protagonist of the saga, in which she will become a true looter of tombs. They also point out that this third installment will provide the protagonist with a decisive moment, since she will become the Tomb Raider that she must be.

With an aesthetic similar to the videogame 'The Last of Us', 'Shadow of the Tomb Raider' adds to the adventures of Lara Croft different civilizations . In addition to the landscapes already present in previous editions of the game, the latest release will include elements belonging to the Mayan civilization, focusing on a new world based on elements of Latin American culture called Paititi.

The game is based on the route that Lara pursues her enemies, while trying to save the world by avoiding a Mayan apocalypse and surviving the forces of nature. Also, as announced in the presentation of the new installment Dozois and Smith, as the game progresses, Lara will face an election that will define her and the future of humanity.

Paititi and infiltration, the great novelties

During the test of the game it was observed that the gameplay is simpler than in previous editions, being very similar to other video games with similar characteristics such as 'The Last of Us' (awarded the best game of the year in 2013) or 'Uncharted' ' Highlights the impressive graphics that show even the smallest detail of the civilizations treated in the game, and the sound that causes the player the feeling of being in the same place as the protagonist.

Regarding the gameplay, in addition to the improvement in the mobility of the character, this new delivery allows the player to be even more creative when facing adversity, since Lara's ability to mimic nature increases with respect to previous editions , being able to use the plants found in the jungle to make ammunition and create different tools that will be very useful during the development of the game.

The great novelty of this delivery is in the appearance of Paititi , which as Jason Dozois and Heath Smith claim is the largest nucleus ever created , an ancient civilization unexplored by the modern world and full of adventures for players.

In addition to the appearance of Paititi, the other great novelty is the infiltration that acquires meaning in the video game more than ever. Eidos-Montréal has managed to make this feature an essential weapon for this new release and has given meaning to the word 'shadow' (shadow) that appears in the title of its new release.

The only one that can be taken out of this video game, which goes on sale on September 14 ( 69.99 euros for Xbox One and PS4, and 59.99 for PC ), is the darkness that shows in some moments since, even though Lara is constantly accompanied by her flashlight, there are some nooks and crannies that are too dark for the young heroine and her fans, sometimes creating a certain confusion about the place where the player is.
