Robots become fast food chefs
Robots become fast food chefs
The kitchens of the restaurants are modernized and technology takes over the stoves
The first restaurant in the world that offers a robotic kitchen that cooks complex meals". This is how Spyce , an American restaurant that opened its doors in Boston a few months ago, is presented .
In his letter we can find an assortment of salads of different chefs, but prepared by a giant robot facing the public. "The robotic kitchen is a tool that helps us to be more efficient without losing quality," explain the restaurant managers.
Gone is the failed Flippy experiment . The robot cook of Miso Robotics and Caliburger could not stand the pressure of working in a chain of fast food establishments. His parents said he was ready to put up with the pressure and cook 300 hamburgers every hour.
Flippy did not pass the test period, barely lasted 24 hours. The robot chef had to be deactivated at the Caliburger in Pasadena (California, United States). An excessive affluence and a communication error, Miso Robotics pointed out later that Flippy was prepared to be a kitchen assistant, they finished with this technological adventure in Caliburger.
Despite this bad robotic experience, CaliBurguer is continuing with its plans to incorporate 50 robots of this type in its restaurants in the United States. And it has not discouraged other companies either.
Spyce's parents, four engineering and robotics graduates from MIT, have brought to their kitchens a giant who sells dishes for $ 7.5 a menu. The kitchen, totally robotized, collects the raw ingredients and then your robot cooks them in a wok at more than 200 degrees.
The cooking lasts just over 3 minutes and with the continuous supervision of the customer who can follow the cooking, since the "cook" works in front of the public. The human hand only intervenes at the end to give a more beautiful touch to the plate.
Experiment in Europe
The landing of high technology to the stoves, is not only exclusive to the United States. The country of nouvelle cuisine (France) has also been conquered by the stomach of the robot chefs.
Thanks to an aid of 2.2 million euros , Ekim has built a robot that makes the pizza chosen by computer and leaves it ready for delivery and consumption. The pizzas have a human stamp, chef Thierry Graffagnino, but customers can include any modification through the MYOP (Make My Own Pizza) app.
The creators of Ekim, Philippe Goldman, Sébastien Roverso and Cyrill Hamon are engineers in electronics and robotics and six years ago began this adventure after living the frustration of fast food for bad ingredients and the few options to modify the menu.
These three engineers have created Pazzi , the fast-food brand that plans to open its first restaurant in France by the end of the year and then start with the expansion. To put an end to the bad ingredients, Goldman, Roverso and Hamon use as a base they use French, Italian and Scottish food to give tools to the robot, which performs the whole process immediately. An account three mechanical arms and is an adaptation of the model designed by Esben Østergaard and distributed by Sysaxes.
Quasi-technological development, since only the dough is prepared manually. The rest of the process is a robotic task and can be observed live in the restaurant and the prices will range between seven and 14 euros, depending on the size and the added ingredients.
There is still time to enjoy the pizzas of this Pazzi restaurant (pazzi in Italian is crazy). In China they are already one step ahead and JD.com is to blame, which in August will open the first of its 1,000 restaurants.
A business initiative that will end in 2020 with a template composed only of robots. At the moment, there are few details of how it will be, only that there will be a menu of 40 dishes cooked by robots and served by robots. What a shame Chicote!
