Hyperloop breaks a new speed record: 467 km / h

German students develop a capsule that exceeds the speed of the one created by Tesla

Not Tesla, nor Hyperloop One, nor Elon Musk himself through his company Space X. The speed record in a Hyperloop test has a team of young Germans who have managed to run their pods, trains in this transport, to 467 kilometers per hour.

Last year, the Tesla prototype reached 355 km / h. A spectacular figure that has been relegated by the work of WARR Hyperloop of the Technical University of Munich. The work of the German engineers was chosen in the final organized by Space X along with two other groups formed by the University of Delf in the Netherlands and the Epf Loop of Switzerland

The teams were asked to develop a self-propelled capsule that travels at the fastest possible speed in a tube of Hyperloop 1.2 kilometers long, and the one that got a higher speed was the German.

They did it with a prototype of 70 kilos of weight manufactured in carbon fiber, and powered by a 50kW electric motor.

In the competition promoted by Space X there was also Spanish representation. During the first three days of the tournament the team of the Polytechnic University of Valencia came to be in the first place of the table.

His prototype, baptized as Valentia, managed to overcome a total of 50 tests and validations before suffering an electrical breakdown that prevented them from continuing in the competition. "The robustness of the project meant that all tests were exceeded with great fluidity," says Javier Arroyo, project manager of the team.

An electronic breakdown stopped the chances of success, which ended with Valentia in eighth place in the grand final. "The jury told us that the work we have done is amazing, really very Space. In his opinion, after reviewing all the pods in competition, ours was the project that best fit the company's philosophy. For the design, for the approaches, for the way of doing things, "adds Arroyo.

The judges, volunteer engineers from the Elon Musk companies (SpaceX, The Boring Company and Tesla), have highlighted, above all, two strengths of the Valentia prototype: on the one hand, the concept developed in the wheel system, a proposal innovative that was distinguished from the other ideas presented, and secondly, the spectacular exterior design of the pod, which has been an extra point.

"It was hard for them to believe that we had made the fairing ourselves, because many of the teams in competition simply order the most complicated pieces from suppliers. We built practically all the components of Valentia in the workshop and that, in the end, gave us an advantage over the rest, because we understood in detail the operation of our prototype, "he says.
