Cyber attacks increase by 6.7% in Spain
Over 123,000 incidents were resolved last year
The National Institute of Cybersecurity (Incibe), under the Ministry of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda, has resolved a total of 123,064 security incidents in 2017, 6.77% more than 2016.
Of these incidents, 116,642 affected companies and citizens, 885 to strategic operators and 5,537 corresponded to the academic field of RedIRIS, according to the 2017 Balance Sheet presented this morning in Madrid.
In addition, the Incibe has successfully resolved 2,425 ransomware incidents, communicated 18,111 new vulnerabilities and issued 491 security advisories, in addition to sending 49,924 notifications to third parties for their involvement in the investigation and resolution of incidents.
The Office of Security of the Internet (OSI), which is responsible for raising awareness of citizens in cybersecurity through the telephone line 901 111 121 and its mailbox, attended 4,354 inquiries from citizens and sent 131.857 notifications of the Antibotnet service.
From Internet Segura for Kids (IS4K), the Internet portal launched in February 2017 to raise awareness among minors, families and professionals in the area of minors, 929 awareness-raising actions have been carried out, reaching 41,925 people. In addition, in 2017 the record number of 392 registered volunteers in the program Cibercooperantes has been reached.
Incibe presented its 2018 activity plan, for which it has a budget of 23,220,000 million euros. This budget allocation will allow Incibe to consolidate itself as a public service to undertake and strengthen its prevention and detection capabilities with the aim of improving awareness in the field of cybersecurity of citizens and businesses.
