Computers survive the era of mobile and tablet



PC sales grow for the first time in six years


Almost 25 consecutive quarters with falls in computer sales or what is the same six years of decline, according to Gartner. Now, for the first time in the second quarter of 2018, 62.09 million units were sold, which is 1.4% more than in the same period.

Those three months of 2017 sold 61.25 million, this means that for the first time since 2012 the sales of computers grew. "This growth has been driven by the demand of the business market, which has offset the decline in the consumer segment, where the cultural change around the use of computers continue to impact growth," said Mikako Kitagawa, principal analyst at Gartner.

In particular, the firm highlights that all regions recorded a growth in computer sales compared to the same period of the previous year and underlines that, although these data are "positive" for the sector, this signal of market stability is not enough to confirm your recovery.

By manufacturers, the Chinese technology firm Lenovo leads the market with a share of 21.9% after increasing its sales by 10.5% to 13.6 million. In second place is HP with a share of 21.9%, after selling 6.1%, to 13.59 million devices.

In third place is Dell, with a market share of 16.8% and an increase in sales of 3%, while Apple remains in fourth place with a market share of 7.1% and growth of sales of 3% and Asus in the fifth with a share of 6.4% and a rise of 3.1%.
