Constanza + LAB presents a proposal composed of intelligent garments that transmit the feelings of its wearers through light

They do not have a soul but they can be able to make people feel or express the way in which they find themselves. Because feelings are not easy to express and sometimes you need extra help. And the clothes can be a great ally . Dressing in a certain way or wearing a specific look adds an extra to maybe meet that person in front of us.

This is what can be understood from the premise of QUANTUM , the winning fashion collection of the tenth edition of Samsung EGO Innovation Project and that has inaugurated the first day of MBFWM (Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid). The project of the firm constanza + LAB uses an ecosystem IoT (Internet of Things)which presents a proposal composed of intelligent garments that transmit the feelings of its wearers through the light of various preconfigured colors.

«The pledge empathizes with us. We use light as a new material and a new communication code, "explains designer Constanza Mas.

And it is that beyond trends, comfort and functionality, there is a new way of seeing and understanding fashion. In this case we talk about the concept 'Fashiontech' (the fusion of fashion and technology for its meaning in English). The so-called smart garments are capable of transmitting physical states and sensations.

In the collection of Constanza garments are connected to the mobile phone via Bluetooth and allow the user to personalize the message they emit through RGBW led lightsof 22 pixels and a controller board. In addition the lights allow their placement in sleeves or bags, also designed by Constanza and that are traceable, from emoticons to initials.

"Our idea is to unveil the invisible with minimalist structures in which technology merges perfectly. When the jacket, vest or shirt is off, you do not perceive anything external that makes you see that you have 'superpowers' », the designer from Murcia hopes. Fashion with its own light that stands out for the craftsmanship of the product and the hours it takes to develop it.

"There is a lot of research and development in the 'fashion tech' part. For now we have prototypes that later we would like to materialize them in sales ", says the designer who explains that through an application, the user is "connected to the garment" and "expresses his state of mind through preconfigured light patterns". That is, all in reference to positive emotions.

Constanza Mas began the studies of Industrial Design Engineering but ended up graduating in Fashion Design by the School of Design of Murcia. In 2012, she decided to put together her concerns to found Constanza + LAB, something she describes as «a fashion laboratory of the XXI Century where technology and clothing form a hybrid ecosystem in which traditional craftsmanship and digital manufacturing go hand in hand in an innovative and sustainable way ».

The collection is composed of eight outfits (five feminine and three masculine), all in immaculate white and whose pattern, based on straight cuts, refers to a futuristic minimalism.

It is his second fashion fashion collection. In the previous one, called 'Purgatory' , he used sensors installed in clothes that reacted to stimuli such as sound, proximity or movement, and also responded to light patterns. With it he won a meeting of programmers 'hackathon fashion tech' that incorporated LED lamps in the form of letter C that changed color depending on the level of stress of the person wearing it.

In particular, the garment remains white when the person is at rest, green when it detects movement and red when it is an accelerated movement.and convulse assimilable to stress. Another advance more than what will be the wardrobe of the future, which for Constanza we would be talking about a fusion of the real and virtual world as well as an "extension of our expressive capacities"
