Children are the most vulnerable when surfing the internet and they spend more and more time in front of a screen. This is one of the conclusions of the IMF and its study '2018 DQ Impact Report'.

The report concludes that children spend an average of 32 hours in front of a screen a week. A leisure, that for the investigators, they realize mainly in solitude and that surpasses in hours to the time that happen in the school.

"Today, young people are an important part of our informed society," Cheryl Martil, director and member of the IMF committee, said in the statement. "They are our leaders and voters of tomorrow. Ensuring that they are well equipped to face the challenges of a hyperconnected life, as soon as possible, is a priority. "

The international study that collects the habits in the network of more than 34,000 minors, reflects that 56% of children between 8 and 12 years old are exposed to at least one challenge related to the internet when using digital platforms.

The main threats include cyberbullying, gambling addiction, offline meetings and online sexual behavior that have also been linked to digital identity theft, digital misinformation and reduced empathy. The data indicate that almost half of the children in the sample were victims of cyberbullying last year.

A risk, which according to the report, increases and are 33% higher, largely due to the rapid adoption of mobile technology and digital platforms without children having received adequate training.
