A Bluetooth vulnerability puts thousands of devices at risk

It affects all brands except Microsoft

The National Institute of Cybersecurity (INCIBE) has launched an alert this week with Bluetooth connections. «« This failure allows a remote attack depending on the physical proximity to the devices, injecting malware or intercepting the data that is being sent », explains the Internet Security Office.

The alert launched by the INCIBE groups the users of the main technologies. The most affected in this case are Apple, Broadcom, Intel and Qualcomm. The only ones that are saved are the Microsoft devices. Google, Android and Linux have not yet confirmed the existence of the vulnerability, but are under suspicion.

The giant of Cupertino has informed its users of the steps to follow to protect their devices against this security breach. Apple devices will have to be updated and among them are the macOS High Sierra 10.13.5, iOS 11.4, watchOS 4.3.1 and tvOS 11.4.

In the case of Intel, the vulnerability affects those of dual-band wireless products-AC, Tri-Band Wireless-AC and Wireless-AC. For its part, Broadcom has confirmed that know this situation and informed that some of its products compatible with Bluetooth 2.1 or the latest technology may be affected by the problem.

The rest of the companies indicated in the INCIBE communiqué have not yet pronounced or informed of the steps that their users have to take to protect themselves from this vulnerability. However, the INCIBE recommends turning off the Bluetooth whenever it is not being used.
