The Soundscape app recreates spatial information of the environment more naturally than step-by-step systems
Soundscape allows you to build a mental map and make personal route choices while feeling more comfortable in unfamiliar spaces." This is the presentation card of the Microsoft application to make the day to day more accessible and comfortable for people who are blind or have a high degree of vision loss.
Through 3D signals, Soundscape "provides information about its environment". This project uses sounds to guide its users more naturally than the app that uses the step-by-step instructions.
"Users become more aware of their environment and gain more confidence and power to move," adds Microsoft.
The application can run in the background along with navigation or other applications "to provide an additional context on the environment," says the technology.
The phone tracks movement using the location and activity sensors. Soundscape runs on the iPhone 5S or later and is compatible with most wired or Bluetooth stereo headphones.
However, the app does not replace the use of the cane or guide dog to avoid obstacles, but is designed to add information about what places are around the user.
